My American dream started on the border.
I was born in Hermosillo, Sonora Mexico and grew up in La Colonia Palo Verde. I came to the United States when I was nine-years-old.
When I wear my "Started from the Border" shirt I feel powerful. It is a statement. Every-time I wear I get a compliment and people want to know where to buy one too. There are people who read it and are immediately interested in buying one but there are others who read it and roll their eyes.
I've never been afraid of wearing this shirt, saying where I cam from, and knowing where my roots are from.
That is something I will never be ashamed of that. Saying I am Mexican makes me proud and I'll always feel that way. I know that we are ground zero here in Arizona for racism against Mexicans.
I am not proud of being labeled Hispanic or Latino. Call me a Mexican.
